Natasha has been an integral part of the BestDraft LLC team. Since the time she started as a contributing writer, her knowledge of writing and firsthand experience in the outdoor realm has translated into digestible and applicable content. Not only does she write in a way that makes each submission a joy to read, but her attention to detail makes the editing process short and sometimes unnecessary as most of her work is submitted at a publish-ready quality. Her clear communication throughout the entire writing process has made it a pleasure to work with her!

I recently had the opportunity to interview Natasha on my podcast, Adventure Bound. For over an hour and a half, we chatted about traveling to wild places, the importance of incorporating nature into our lives and what we can all do to better our mental health. I’ve interviewed over 70+ incredible guests in the last year and a half on my show and I can honestly say that talking with Natasha was one of my favorite conversations to date, by far! She has an amazing outlook on life and is someone who truly cares about the world we live in and those around her. If you’re lucky enough to chat with Natasha, you’ll soon find that her fun storytelling and zest for life will leave your audience yearning for more.

Natasha’s writings and reflections in her manuscript Dirt and Tears, are raw and left me crying– sometimes with laughter and sometimes with sorrow. She writes about her mom’s battle with cancer and does not sugarcoat the complicated mix of emotions that family members face when caregiving for a loved one. Her anger, frustration, patience and deep, deep love for her mom comes through on every page. The thing about Dirt and Tears that stands out to me the most is Natasha’s transparency. She isn’t afraid to show her flaws, her desires, her pain or her joy. She writes with the same openness about grief and mental health, as she does about sex outdoors and backpacking through New Zealand. Life is complicated and complex and messy and beautiful and Natasha shows the reader exactly that. Her writing reaches out and offers an open hearted, honest and caring perspective. She writes like she knows me or wants to know me.

Natasha wrote and performed a story for a live event that Out There Podcast hosted last spring. She put together a beautiful, heartfelt tale, and was a delight to work with: punctual about deadlines, eager for edits, and a team player throughout the process. She also went above and beyond when it came to learning new skills; when I suggested resources for honing live storytelling skills, she dove into the reading material and immediately incorporated what she learned into her work.

[Natasha’s manuscript] made me laugh and cry and shout out exclamations like, ‘yessss!’ and, ‘holy shit! Exactly!!’ […] Most importantly, it’s made me feel so much less alone and know that at least somebody can relate, and I’m so glad you wrote that book. THANK YOU for being vulnerable and sharing your story because it’s going to help so many people. It’s definitely helped me.”
